Letter to President Aoun and Petition Drive
HEAT is committed to reducing Northeastern's contribution to climate change. In order to make substantial changes, the support of the Administration and President Aoun is essential. HEAT collected over 5,100 student signatures in support of:
Monitoring the university's greenhouse gas emissions, developing targets and specific steps for their reduction, and a timeline for achieving climate neutrality.
Ensuring that all university buildings use state-of-the-art energy efficiency measures, achieving LEED certification with 10 points from "Energy & Atmosphere," and that existing buildings be retrofitted to the highest possible standard.
Obtaining at least 50% of the university's energy from renewable sources by 2012.
The petitions were presented to President Aoun in a press conference in April 2007.
In June 2007, President Aoun signed the President's Climate Commitment. HEAT and the administration are working together to ensure NU is complying with all stipulations set forth by the PCC.
