The NU students met with an aid to Representative Michael Capuano, who serves the 8th District of MA, to ask him to support the following goals:-To strive to reach a goal of 350 ppm (amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which scientists are telling us is an acceptable level, we are at 383 ppm now)-To auction off all of the green house gas permits once we start cap and trade, not to give any of them away for free-To reduce our (state’s) emissions to 25-40% below 1990 levels by 2020 and 80-95% below 1990 levels by 2050. -In order to achieve the previous goal, we need to act quickly to reduce our emissions and renewable energy production needs to be a priority. Supporting the goals set out by Al Gore’s We Campaign, of obtaining 100% of our electricity from clean energy sources in 10 years, would be instrumental. His Aid was not able to commit him to any of these goals, but we are hopeful and will continue to push him to publicly support them.

Turn Up The Heat On Mutual Funds To Act On Climate Change

Several large mutual fund families fail to take the simplest actions to encourage corporate responsibility on climate change. Unlike a growing number of institutional investors, these funds never support resolutions on climate change.

Add your name to their petition and tell them to catch up with their peers and take climate change seriously.
